HOW WE'RE DIFFERENT

At Kentwood Preparatory School, we work with a unique group of students who require more than what traditional schools can offer. These children are bright, capable, and full of potential—but need a structured, supportive environment tailored to their individual learning and social-emotional needs. Our comprehensive approach supports not only the student, but the family as a whole, with the goal of creating lasting change at home, at school, and beyond.

Meeting Students Where They Are

Kentwood works with a carefully selected population of students who are not thriving in conventional educational environments. These are potentially average to bright children who may have been diagnosed with ADHD, Asperger’s, or other social and communication challenges—or may have no diagnosis at all. What they share is a need for a smaller, safer, and more consistent setting where they can succeed.

We do not accept students who are emotionally disturbed or pose a danger to themselves or others. Instead, we focus on students who, despite their struggles, show potential for growth when given the right tools and environment. We believe that when a child struggles, the whole family feels it—and our mission is to help restore or maintain healthy family systems while supporting the student’s individual progress.

How We Help

Our multidisciplinary team includes professionals with training in psychology, social work, education, cognitive language development, and perceptual motor skills. This broad expertise allows us to accurately identify challenges, implement targeted intervention strategies, and monitor progress every step of the way.

Beyond the classroom, our team brings experience from a range of supportive environments, including boarding schools, summer camps, home management systems, parent support groups, advocacy work, and family workshops. This breadth of experience enhances our ability to support families holistically.

Central to our approach are the Module Program and Cogmotics System, which are designed to strengthen academic performance, improve life and social skills, and build practical systems within the family. Students leave Kentwood not just better prepared for school—but with tools and strategies that support long-term success in all areas of life.
